Sourav Ganguly, in an interview with India Today, mentioned that the turning point came on Day 4 of the Manchester Test, where India showed resilience after being 0 for 2 and turned the tide in their favor at The Oval.

“They played very well in England. From being 0 for 2 in Manchester to drawing the series at The Oval, the Indian team showed a very strong performance,” Ganguly said.

Ganguly Applauds Shubman Gill and Gautam Gambhir

Ganguly congratulated both Gill and Gambhir for successfully guiding a young Indian team. He highlighted Shubman Gill’s excellent batting and praised the consistency of Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar.

“After a long time, maybe since 2002 or 2007, India’s top 6 batsmen have performed so consistently in England,” Ganguly added.

Mohammed Siraj’s Match-Winning Performance

Mohammed Siraj was instrumental in the final Test, picking up 9 wickets and leading the bowling attack. Ganguly emphasized how Indian pacers have always excelled on grassy wickets, whether in England, South Africa, or Australia.

“Wherever there’s help for fast bowlers, like Perth, Johannesburg, Headingley, or now The Oval, our bowlers have delivered. Siraj’s performance was exceptional,” Ganguly said.

Predicting India’s Win at The Oval

Ganguly revealed that he had predicted India’s win after seeing the pitch conditions at The Oval on Day 1, believing the grass would support India’s fast bowlers.

“When I saw the grass on the Oval pitch, I thought it was India’s chance. I’m not surprised by the win,” he added.
